Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities: Season 1 [2022]
Maybe I'll write an encompassing review on this, maybe I won't. Either way, here is our rankings on the line-up of shorts in this mostly impressive anthology series against what IMDB's ratings show.
All-in-all, this is an anthology series worth watching and I look forward to a sequel if one gets made next year. While it doesn't avoid the pitfalls that all such similar pieces suffer from, it does enough with its truly incredible production value and mostly good ideas to come out head and shoulders above anything else in the genre.
While some of the films are derivative of the directors' previous works and I think lesser of them for that, they are ranked here based solely upon their presentation within this single combined piece. Though I wouldn't watch any of my bottom 3 again the only one in the whole series that was awful was “Dreams of the Witch House”, which is too bad because it’s a great short story… Similar to “Pickman’s Model” which is my second lowest rank.
If you haven't already, I recommend you check out this very watchable collection of short films that [almost] all punch well above their weight class.
