Calibre [2018]

This was a very interesting film experience. Calibre is well shot, well acted, well written, perfectly and plausibly improbable... and absolutely boring as sin.

There were two scenes in this that were fun to watch, and the rest was as absolutely pedestrian as could be. That being said, this was really a very good movie. I'm totally conflicted by this one because while I didn't enjoy it, it really was very well made. I think it's mundanity was actually a large part of its charm. Calibre could have gone a very action/thriller direction with its story and absolutely chose not to. It held firm and never jumped the shark or turned into a run-n-gun “hunters gone bad” flick.

This is a very good example of sticking to your guns even when there's something tastier and shinier just around the corner. Calibre is a bit of a slog, but I honestly think that the more critically engaged audience will find quite a bit of technical enjoyment out of this one. Check it out.
