<Short> Swallow [2019]

One of the most criminally undersung films about the horrors of modern femininity, Swallow doesn't get half the credit it deserves and garners twice as much criticism as it's earned. Beautifully shot, unsettlingly realized, and masterfully acted, this is a film about so much more than it shows you.

Watch this, absorb this, and understand that the events on the screen (while dramatized for most) are daily occurrences for many, and the idea of being trapped inside of your own body like an alien that belongs somewhere else; is not a fantasy and is not simply a yarn to be told. Swallow is the theatrical depiction of reality for many, and a reality made ever worse by societal pressures and expectations.

See the Roger Ebert review below.

"Without spelling things out or softening its final blow, “Swallow” ranks among the best films about the fight for female bodily autonomy in the contemporary era."
