The Thing [1982]

"First goddamn week of winter."

This is may be the movie I've seen more than any other. It's one I've loved since I was about 8-years old and ScyFi ran it during Halloween one year. The Thing is a film that I always associate with my nostalgia for it and then am blown away each time by how actually good it is. Nearly every frame of this movie is perfect, almost no shots are wasted and nearly nothing is meaningless -- I'd even venture to say that exactly nothing is meaningless in this film.

Watching it as more of a study in cinematography tonight was a very strange experience, because it hit me all over again. This movie -- start to finish -- is full of amazing camerawork. 39 years-old and this John Carpenter masterpiece truly still holds up.

"Nobody trusts anybody..."
