The Head Hunter, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret., Ponty Pool, Nitram, The Super Mario Bros. Movie

- The Head Hunter [2018] - 64
A low budget fantasy that presents the viewer with grisly trophies rather than action, this is a great ride for an early student-style film, but leaves a lot to be desired if any thought is put into it outside that scope.

- Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. [2023] 66
See my full review for more thoughts, but this was just ok... Despite having some really important and well though-out messages. This is a film that suffers immensely from very, very boring presentation. Watch 2022's Turning Red for a similar vibe, but much more fun experience.

- Ponty Pool [2008] - 64
If you've played Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, you've already experienced the better version of Ponty Pool. While the film has some novel ideas and some pretty great presentation, it struggles with focus and ultimately fails to mean anything or matter by the end. Even still, a project that excites me for future work by the creators.

- Nitram [2021] - 84
Difficult, upsetting, and very smart, Nitram is a film best summed up by "you know you can't do anything, but somebody could have, and that's why it hurts". Contrary to Margaret above, this film's presentation is absolutely stellar and creates a mood you want nothing more to escape, but simply cannot. While I feel it pulls a couple punches, it still manages to hit hard and be well worth the time.

- The Super Mario Bros. Movie [2023] - 35
The more I think about this one, the less I like it. This is, to be frank, a miserable excuse for a film and had it been anything other than Mario flavored, it would have flopped instantly. A flat, meaningless, outdated plot with equally flat, meaningless, and forgettable characters, this is the perfect example of how to milk a beloved franchise for all its worth.
